Microsoft has resolved additional issues with the Windows 11 24H2 update and officially activated automatic updates for compatible systems.
At the end of last week, Microsoft began the automatic rollout of the Windows 11 24H2 update for eligible devices. Prior to this, developers addressed several update-related issues that had previously triggered compatibility blocks, preventing the update from being installed on affected systems.
According to the Windows Release Health notes for Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft highlighted these developments in a notification box. “We have reached a new phase in the gradual rollout of version 24H2,” the developers announced last Thursday. “Devices running Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2, equipped with Home and Pro editions, will gradually be updated to version 24H2. The automatic update applies only to devices not managed by an IT department. Users can select a convenient time to restart their systems or postpone the update.”
Users eager to update manually can check for availability under the Windows Update section in their system settings.
Compatibility Issues with 24H2 Update
In mid-November, Microsoft acknowledged issues with the Windows 11 24H2 update, particularly affecting several Ubisoft games. These included three Assassin’s Creed titles—Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla—as well as Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Microsoft implemented a block on systems running these games using Safeguard IDs 54437462 and 54437463 to prevent potential disruptions.
By December, Ubisoft released hotfix updates for Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which resolved compatibility issues with these games. This allowed Microsoft to lift Safeguard ID 54580160 associated with these problems.
As of this past weekend, Microsoft has reported that the compatibility issues affecting Ubisoft games have been fully resolved. “Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Origins, and Valhalla are no longer impacted by the problem, thanks to updates released by Ubisoft,” Microsoft stated in their error report. “These fixes address the compatibility issues with Windows 11 24H2, ensuring that players can enjoy these games without interruptions. Safeguard ID 54437462, which was previously in effect, was removed on January 16, 2025.”
Microsoft noted that while changes may take up to 48 hours to propagate, the updates should now be fully active for all users.
