Microsoft has officially introduced Bing Video Creator, a new feature that allows users to generate videos from text prompts using Sora, the powerful generative AI model developed by OpenAI. This marks the first time Sora has been made available to the public for free, as the tool was previously limited to paying users. The launch significantly expands public access to cutting-edge generative video technology.

According to TechCrunch, the Bing Video Creator is currently accessible only via the mobile version of the Bing app, with no desktop availability at this stage. Despite offering a “fast” mode, the process of generating a video can still take several hours to complete.

Users who are logged into their Microsoft accounts can create up to 10 videos at no cost. However, each video requires 100 Microsoft Rewards points to produce. These points can be accumulated through various activities, such as searching with the Bing browser or shopping in the Microsoft Store. For instance, users can earn 5 points for every Bing search on a PC, with a daily cap of 150 points.

At the moment, the tool only supports short videos—just 5 seconds in length—with a vertical aspect ratio of 9:16. Additionally, users can queue a maximum of three video requests at a time. Microsoft has announced that support for horizontal 16:9 videos will be added soon.

Though still in its early phase, Bing Video Creator highlights the growing collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI in making advanced AI technologies more accessible to the general public.
